On April 21, 2000, Tau Eta Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
was chartered on the campus of Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia.
After careful thought and consideration from Regional Director Paulette C.
Walker and State Coordinator, Ann D. Jones, Athens Alumnae Chapter was
solicited to assist with the initiation of the new members. Under the
leadership of then Athens Alumnae Chapter President, Jennifer Richardson,
10 members were initiated. The ten initiates were Selena Cantrell, Shuneca
Collins, Hope Carroll, Brandi Harrison, ShaRhonda Kimbrough, Rochelle
Millwood, Alexis Oliver, Sheriah Richardson, Kadrica Yearby and Cessna
Veeris. The charter members consisted of the ten initiates in addition to
regional initiate Petula Burke. On April 27, 2002, Tau Eta Chapter with the
assistance of Hall County Alumnae Chapter held its second initiation.
Eliza Burnham and Larriett Butler were initiated into the sorority. On
April 5, 2003, Natalie Grasso, Khalilah Robinson and Telia Rooks were
initiated into the sorority to become active members of Tau Eta Chapter.
Daniella Rivera and India Rose were initiated into the chapter Spring
2004. On April 16 2005, Shardai Murray, Tasheka World, Shelly McRath,
Ashley Anderson, Precious Lowe, Aileen Perez and Brandy Murray were
initiated into the sorority. Six beautiful young ladies joined the chain
of DST April 5, 2006. These ladies included Yasmine Lockett, Jennifer
Heyward, Jamese Jones, Zakiyyah Ghafoor, Maleka Abdur-Rahman and Monique
Green.
Presidents of the chapter consisted of
ShaRhonda Kimbrough - 2000-2001, Cessna Veeris - 2001-2002, Larriett
Bulter - 2002, Eliza Burnham - 2003, Khalilah Robinson - 2003-2004,
Natalie Grasso - 2004-2005, India Rose - 2005-2006 and Shardai Murray-
2006-Present. |

Since Tau Etas inception, the chapter has sponsored many service
initiatives. Some of the programs include AIDS Walk, Voter
Registration/Absentee Ballot Drive, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Health Fairs,
Stress Management Programs, Adopt a
Family and Financial Planning Seminars. Members have volunteered with the
Greater Hall County Mentoring Program and the Community College Fair.
The chapter has many awards for their work.
They were the recipients of the 2002 service award for their work with the
Restoration of Eureka Cemetery, the 2003 Southern Regional Collegiate GPA
Award, 2004 Brenau University Mertz Volunteer Center Award, and the
2004 Gamma Sigma Alpha Scholarship Award. |
