Rho Eta: The History

In the spring of 1991 a minority sorority at Brenau Women’s  College was pushed to the matter. Several Sororities were suggested, but Alpha Kappa Alpha reigned. In the process of getting this organization together at Brenau, the Vice President of the local graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was contacted. This Vice President at the time was Lilla D. Bell of the Lambda Iota Omega graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Soon enough, a meeting was held for the young women who showed interest in the organization.

The first interest group at Brenau would soon come to be known as GENESIS.

Melissa Currin, Dana Etheridge, and Carol McCoy

The purpose of these women would be to uphold the standards and goals of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. through service projects and fundraisers.

Through the assistance of Vertelle Middleton, South Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at the time and Lilla D. Bell, a group of general members became apart of the Rho Eta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on May 14, 1994.

This group of general members would soon come to be known as the BRENAU PEARLS.

Terrinell Lyons, Mali Savanh, Kimberly Howell, Paula Lawrence, Cheronda Mallett, Renate Simpson, Marsha Stringer, Renee Taylor, Tiffany Young, Bridgette Fennell, Monica Gibbons Gretchen James, Sally Mussa.

After a year of inactivity during the 2002-2003 school term, actions were taken by Alphia Wills, graduate advisor, Madia Cooper and Tracey Cameron, to have Rho Eta reinstated on Brenau’s campus. The Rho Eta chapter was reinstated in Spring of 2004 and with this rebirth came the resurrection of a strong sisterhood.  Through Alphia Wills and other Lambda Iota Omega sorors, 4 young women were initiated into the Rho Eta chapter on April 11, 2004.  Those young women were:

Shavonda Lewis, Willesha Jackson, Lola Christina Ross, and Dominique Young.

This only marked a starting point for Rho Eta growth on Brenau’s campus. Following the Divine Resurrection are three more initiate groups:
